“You get the people you deserve!”  Brad Sugars – ActionCOACH Founder

Next time you are faced with the challenge of recruiting good people ask yourself:

  • Why would good people want to come and work for my business?
  • Where and how am I fishing for talent?
  • Do I jump for joy when anyone wants to work for my business and recruit them irrespective of ...

How to Get the Right People on The Bus

Posted by:

This week I had an interesting discussion with a client on the subject of recruitment.  He is mopping up the aftermath of parting company with a poor performing manager.

The manager’s inabilities have been devastating on customer service, the morale of the team and ultimately the profitability of the business division he was running and it has left the business owner terrified of getting in another sub-standard manager.  Of course anyone who has had to recruit a lot of ...

Four Minute Mile

Posted by:

In 1954 Roger Bannister finally achieved the seemingly impossible and ran a sub four minute mile (3m 59.4s).  Since then the sub four minute mile has become the standard of all professional middle distance runners and the record has been lowered by almost 17 seconds.

Thinking about your business, what are your own “four minute miles”?

Stop It!

Take a few minutes to watch veteran US comedian Bob Newhart performing one of his most famous characters, Dr. Robert “Bob”.  It’s great fun but also has an important message that I use when coaching.

When in Doubt, Copy!

Posted by:

Can you just imagine how good the kid in this months clip will be by the time he is old enough to be in a rock band?

He has clearly learned from and imitated a great drummer somewhere (even down to the facial expressions!!!).

It got me thinking about how efficient imitation is as a time management technique.  Whether you are designing a new marketing campaign, motivating your team ...

Stop Making Excuses for Not Planning

Posted by:

One of the commonest excuses for not doing any planning is the further you look ahead the harder it is to predict what will happen.

This is at best a poor excuse for not putting the work in to create a good plan and, at worst, a formal statement that you have chosen to abdicate responsibility for your future to everything but your own initiative.  Not a great place to be.

I have found that for my clients, ...

Have you been to Someday Isle?

Posted by:

Is there a skill you want to learn or an activity that, if you can truly master, would take your business to the next level?

Perhaps mastering sales, learning to play guitar, a foreign language, a new trade skill.

These activities always end up on our favourite island; Someday Isle!  Someday I’ll develop leadership skills, be a better salesman, learn to play guitar or teach myself Spanish.

The task feels ...
